Bible Drill and Speakers

“Bible Drill and Speakers is an intentional, strategic ministry to pass a love of God’s Word, Bible skills, and the practice of Scripture reading to the next generation.” Students in grades 3 – 12 can compete in Bible Drill competitions using KJV, ESV, or CSB Bibles and verses (March – June for drills).

Children Drillers memorize 66 books of the Bible, 25 scripture verses, and 10 key passages. Youth Drillers memorize 30 scripture verses. High School Drillers memorize the plan of salvation, 10 “What we Believe” verses, and 6 Key Biblical Passages – including the 10 Commandments and the Love Chapter in 1 Corinthians. At the drills, they find books of the Bibles, verses, and key passages within a set time. Those who find a certain number within the time limit advance to the next level – church/local, association, regional/state for all grades and state and nationals for youth and high school.

The Essay Contest (9th -12th graders) and the Speakers Tournament (10th – 12th graders) provide opportunities for students “to become better communicators, build confidence, and prepare for a lifetime of success and service. It’s about making a greater difference in the world, both now and for the rest of your life.” High schoolers can win college scholarship up to $4000 and go all the way to the national level in speakers.

(Please note, 4H seems to have some “woke” vocab on their site and have come under pressure from woke ideologies even in GA. Nevertheless, it does offer great opportunities for students as well as provide opportunities for homeschool families to live out the Gospel and the Great Commission.)

“4 H empowers young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime. It’s a research-based experience that includes a mentor, a hands-on project, and a meaningful leadership opportunity.” Programs include hands-on projects, leadership opportunities, research, and competitions in STEM agriculture, healthy living, and civic engagement such as community service project, judging competitions, speech competition, talent competitions, livestock exhibition, fair projects, research projects, shooting sports, camps, and more

GA 4H offers several competitions at the GA National Fair in October for 4H members. (Contact your local extension agent at the link above for information on becoming members in your county and sign up for competitions.) Now is the time to start some of the projects such as dish gardens and terrariums.

Centershot

Once we have liability insurance at our farm, we hope to offer Centershot. Centershot is an archery outreach program for churches and communities. It’s basically using archery to tell people about Jesus. Our program will come under Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). We will eventually have Family Leagues for all ages, Compete Leagues which offer competitions with other club for 4th – 12th graders, and Blue Leagues for military and first responder families.

Why archery?

According to the Centershot website:

  • It is fun, exciting, and adventurous.

End-of-the-Year “County Fair”

If we have enough interest, our farm will host an end-of-the-year “county fair” where families can display their projects for the year. If some folks are interested in getting sponsorship or prizes, we can turn it into a competition.

Fellowship & Discipleship

Let’s not overlook opportunities to fellowship and encourage one another in our Christian walk. It’s not always, but we are in this together. Be on the lookout for opportunities to serve other families in our group, and feel free to reach out to another homeschool family or mom when you need encouragement, support, or ideas.

And of course, I hope our kids develop countless new friendships through the coming year as we study and learn together.
